If you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you saw that Anthony, Jadyn and I went on our annual Disney Cruise vacation. This was our 4th Disney Cruise, you can check out our recap from last year here. This is by far Jadyn's favorite vacation, no matter where we travel together she always says the Disney Cruise is her favorite. Anthony and I had so much fun as well, I love how there is something for everyone on and off the ship.
I received a ton of messages and DMs asking where we stopped, what activities we did and questions about the Disney Cruise itself. So, I recapped our entire 7 night Caribbean cruise along with links to all my outfits I wore :) Check it out below!
The cruise we took was a 7 night Eastern Caribbean Cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy. With a 7-night cruise you basically get 3 vacation experiences in one: a cruise experience, tropical beaches and Disney magic. The first 2 days we were at sea and we did a variety of activities on the ship. The ship offers so many things to do from swimming to waterslides, movie screenings, fireworks at night and incredible dining. Jadyn always loves to get her hair braided and that was one of the first things she did! We also played basketball and miniature golf during the day. At night after dinner, Jadyn would meet up with her friends she met on the ship in the kids area and Anthony and I would enjoy date nights in the adult areas, which include bars, two additional restaurants, a coffee shop and a really nice spa. We got a couples massage one of our days at sea and it was so relaxing!
St. Maarten was our first port, a small island on the southern part of the Caribbean. We decided to go to Rockland Estate, which is an adventure park. They offer a ton of fun activities to do including chairlifts that show you a panoramic views from Sentry Hill, zip-lines and tubing. Anthony went on the flying Dutchman ride which is the steepest zip line in the world and just recently opened! Jadyn really wanted to go too but she didn't meet the 100 lb weight minimum so her and I watched. All three of use went on the The Schooner (tubing downhill) which was really fun!
We spent around 3-4 hours at Rockland Estate, which was enough time to enjoy the park and get photos/video. We were able to take the 1PM shuttle back to the port. All of these activities were booked through the Disney Cruise port adventures which you can do online after you book your cruise- or also on the ship they have a counter where you can schedule all port adventures in advance.
You can book on your own tours and excursions but I recommend doing it all through Disney- we've done it both ways on previous ships and had an overall better experience doing everything through Disney- they work with the best local companies and vet out the experiences in advance so you know it will be great. They provided everything (transfers to and from, tickets, etc.) and this way also ensures you're back on the cruise ship before it leaves the port.
Since our ship didn't leave St. Maarten until 6PM, we had a few hours to check out another beach on the island. We decided to take a taxi to Mullet Bay on our own and it was so peaceful with gorgeous water!
On every Disney Cruise they have a designated Pirates in the Caribbean night the whole day is themed with activities, characters, food etc. Anthony, Jadyn and I always dress up lol it's so fun! In one of the main dining restaurants, all the servers are dressed as pirates and the dinner menu is even a treasure map. At the end of the night, they have a pirate party on the deck with a show, interactive games and an amazing fireworks show at the end. You can meet-and-greets with special characters and there are special themed activities for the kids at the youth clubs. Jadyn always looks forward to it every year!
Our next port stop was St. Thomas and we took a ferry to St. John Bay Beach. We did the St. John Trunk Bay Beach & Snorkel Tour, which we booked through Disney's Port Adventures. This is easily one of my favorite beaches, we've been once before. The water is crystal clear and ultra turquoise. They have a marked snorkeling trail and you can swim out into 100 feet of water and see the bottom perfectly.
We have done the snorkeling port adventure before and we love it! Trunk Bay is paradise, it's the perfect beach for snorkeling just relaxing on beautiful white sandy beach. It was actually ranked one of the 20 best beaches in the world in 2017, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
After we arrived back from St. John, we had a few hours before boarding the ship. We really wanted to go back to Morning Star beach but because of the recent hurricanes, the resort the beach was apart of was still closed, with plans to open again next year. Actually most of the resorts in St. Thomas were still closed due to the hurricane, which made the Disney Cruise a perfect way to see the beaches without staying overnight on the island- the beaches were also much less crowded because of it, (but I didn't notice any damage to the beaches- they still looked very beautiful).
We decided to take a cab into downtown St. Thomas because they were having a food fair. The St. Thomas Agriculture and Food Fair is held once a year on the grounds of the University of the Virgin Islands Reichhold Center for the Arts. It was so much fun and is a great place to find local cakes, stews and listen to local music. The cab ride was $4/person each way and only a 15 minute drive. You could also walk to the downtown along the shoreline which is only about a 1.5 mile stretch.
We were really craving Mexican food, so we found a local restaurant called Greengo's. It was delicious and really hit the spot with their massive frozen margaritas and nachos.
Our final port was Disney's Castaway Cay. This is Disney's private island in the Bahamas which is only for Disney Cruise Line guests. It's a tropical island with with signature Disney hospitality. There's a ton of things to see and do at Castaway Cay, beaches, lagoons, a waterpark, trails to hike, dining locations, shops and trams to take you all over the island. You can even go kayaking, or swimming and snorkeling in the blue lagoon.
We mostly relaxed on the beach and Jadyn played in the waterpark, she loves the waterslides! Castaway Cay is always such a fun final spot!
